In fact there are some very simple and inexpensive ways to give the kitchen a brand new look. In many instance most of the changes are quite trivial, yet they transform the entire look and feel of the kitchen. For those about to embark on such a project there is a world of ideas on kitchen decorating and remodeling projects at low costs from magazines or on internet sites dealing with kitchen design ideas.

Perhaps one of the easiest and most economical ways to decorate your kitchen is by amending the existing lighting scheme. Options of pendants and spots are clever choices for lighting over kitchen islands and sinks. They are attractive and provide good task lighting and additional general lighting. It is also important that counters in a kitchen have additional lighting. When it comes to cabinets and storage areas lights below the cabinet tend to highlight the countertop of the kitchen. The lights above the kitchen will not only illuminate your attractive cabinets but will remove shadows from the kitchen. A good choice of lights for counters is halogen under cabinet lighting or puck lights. Always remember to add dimmers, as they can set an entirely different mood whilst in the kitchen. These lighting changes or additions are quite inexpensive.

Contrary to popular belief there is nothing sacred about stained wood. In fact painted wood is just as appropriate in many kitchens, and paint allows the color and finish desired at a fraction of the cost of refinishing cabinets. Appliance refinishing companies and even automobile paint shops can provide new complexions for your old range refrigerator, or dishwasher at economical prices. At the same time try to ensure not to invest in a new look for an appliance that has only a couple of years of use remaining. Special do-it-yourself wall-painting jobs, such as sponging, mottling, and rag-rolling, are a good way to divert attention from other less-attractive elements.

Another cheap way of breathing life and character into the kitchen is by getting new knobs and pulls on cabinets. Select from glass, metal, rubber, wood, resin, and stone and feel free to use multiple materials and styles to give kitchens a lift. Additionally kitchen which lack personality and character can benefit greatly from new moldings. Use crown moldings at the ceiling, install a chair rail or plate rail partway up the wall and replace trim around windows and doors to create shape and detail. These are easy to do and very inexpensive.

Discover more great tips at http://www.allaboutthehome.info a website offering tips and resources on matters like kitchen cabinet lighting, color schemes and kitchen designs to fit any budget.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Sarah_Hhttp://EzineArticles.com/?3-Low-Cost-Kitchen-Decorating-Ideas&id=432323

The 30-Minute Kitchen Makeover
By Pamela Tice

A kitchen remodeling project is typically put off for years past when its really needed simply because of the enormity of the task—in both time, money, and effort. Few of us have the large blocks of time and resources to set aside for a complete and thorough kitchen makeover with cabinets, new flooring, or any of the other bells and whistles. However, with just thirty minutes a day and minimal expense, you can transform your kitchen from the same old drab and cramped space into a space that is warm, inviting, and has increased workspace.

No, you can’t completely transform the kitchen in one thirty minute session, but you can focus on some key areas for short periods of time and make noticeable improvement, such as:

PaintTable cloth/linensNew Cabinet HardwareNew Light

FixturesRolling kitchen cart

Painting is a great way to breathe new life into any room and the kitchen is certainly no exception. While you may not be able to tackle everything in a single session, you can generally break the area down into manageable blocks. Perhaps focus on trim during one painting session and then the flat surfaces in another. Be sure to coordinate the color choices with the other appliances and furniture in the room for a more professional and unified look.

Simply adding a new table cloth can help hide away any blemishes, stains, or damage to the old dining room table. Even if the current dinette set is in perfect order, a complementary table cloth and perhaps a simple centerpiece will add life and vitality to the space.

While a new set of custom cherry kitchen cabinets may not be in the cards, you can still breathe new life into your current cabinetry by simply changing out the hardware. Again, you may not be able to change everything out in one thirty-minute block of time, but you can break this task up just as with the painting.

Lighting fixtures are a great way to add style, sophistication, and perhaps even a complete new outlook on any space. Adding in a set of matching pendant light fixtures over an island area or even a little pub table that sits off in the corner—really draws the space together while providing some much needed task lighting. Track lighting fixtures over the sink area are always helpful when doing dishes and make great accent lights when other lights are turned off or dimmed.
When buying lighting fixtures for any space, be sure to coordinate the finish and materials with other furnishings in the room. If it is for some reason not possible to coordinate with other appliances, pot racks, or furnishings in the kitchen—then at least be sure that the finish, materials, and designs of the fixtures themselves match one another.

You should be able to change out one fixture per session but be sure and turn off the circuit breaker to whatever light you happen to be working on at the time.

Finally, a rolling kitchen cart may take more than 30-minutes to assemble but it is one of the best ways to free up preparation space in the kitchen while organizing at the same time. You can turn the cart into a mobile prep/serving area during family gatherings and simply store it away in some convenient space when not in use. Or, you can use the cart as a mobile workspace during food preparation to help alleviate cramped quarters and inadequate storage space.

A kitchen makeover done properly will cost tens of thousands of dollars and cause complete chaos in your home for at least a month. If you have neither the time or money for a total renovation, then consider the convenient, simple, and inexpensive ideas listed above to free up space and breathe new life into your poor, overworked kitchen! Often the kitchen is a room in which most people spend a lot of their time. Whether it is to entertain friends and family or simply to cook the family meals, the kitchen really is the centerpiece in most homes. So, if you are thinking of decorating it, it would be a good idea to spend time researching and finding the right ideas to suit your home as well as your personality.

Finding the Right Kitchen Decorating Ideas to Suit You

There are many ways in which you can make your kitchen look homely and sophisticated or modern and relaxed. From choosing different tiles to rearranging the whole design, you should definitely be able to come up with something that suits your family needs as long as you do the right amount of research.

You can find various different designs in magazines as well as on the internet. The internet has a huge range of ideas to be found, though it might take you a long time to come up with one which you like, so ensure that you have quite a few hours to spare when you set off on your search!

Going to your local library might also be a good idea as an aid in your search. There you will find plenty of interior design books which will also offer ideas as to what you could go for. Usually even little steps can be taken to drastically improve the look of the kitchen – it doesn’t always have to be the big changes that make a difference! For example, if you have a table, a simple centerpiece on the table could add that extra touch that it was missing. A tablecloth could also be something different to try. Basically you need to use as much imagination as you can in order to let your personality shine through.

If you are looking to redecorate the whole kitchen then you will need paint or wallpaper as well as paintbrushes, tiles and accessories. You may want to think about moving the sink or boiler within your home but generally that can cost a lot of money and it is also a lot of hassle! So, avoid changing the whole layout around if possible. Of course you could always replace old looking cupboards and worktops with more modern designs if you want to, and you can replace an old looking cooker and appliances with newer ones and that should help to change the look of the kitchen.

Overall it is completely up to you as to how you want to design the kitchen. You need to ensure that you are happy with the designs and you also need to make sure that you have spent enough time researching and looking for new designs. Redecorating should never be a rushed job otherwise it may turn out all wrong!

Andrew Caxton is the author and editor of more interiors resources published at http://www.home-decorating-reviews.com Find more publications about decorating ideas at his website.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Andrew_Caxton

Outdoor Lighting - Create A Fun Space!
By Michael Russell

The world of outdoor lighting has changed immensely in recent years. The porch and patio have turned from simply a place for kids to get some fresh air, into a functional entertaining environment. As such, the outdoor living area needs lighting to make it warm and cozy. Outdoor lighting also needs to be stylish for the family who plans on entertaining!

The reason that lighting is so important for your outdoor space is that it sets the mood for your party, barbeque, or other event! Even when not turned on, the style and ambiance of your lighting says a lot of about you! And today's lighting designers are ready to meet your needs with options that are functional, cheery and stylish!

First, you need to decide where you need lights. You will want lights around your deck, along the paths of your gardens and in your landscape to set off important parts that you want to shine. All visible lights should match, so that your yard and patio or deck have a coherent, streamlined look. Remember, when you are investing in your home, you are investing in its future worth, so take your time when choosing your outdoor lighting.

Choose lighting that is durable and weather resistant. Make sure it is made of quality materials that will not quickly fade or rust. No matter what look you are trying to achieve, you will fail if your light becomes dingy within a few years of installation.

Next, choose a focal point for your outdoor living space. You will build your lighting around this, drawing the eye to the most important part of your yard. This might be an outdoor pond, your patio set, or a statue in your garden. Whatever it ism make sure it is lit and in a prominent place.

Next, install sconces wherever possible outdoors. Sconces create the perfect lighting to surround a deck or porch. Make sure to find some that are approved for outdoor use. Consider purchasing outdoor accessories with built in lighting. You might want to choose a statuary, for example, that comes with its own lighting. This adds both beauty and light to your outdoor space and also saves you money over buying a light and decoration separately.

Another great idea for your outdoor space is portable lamps. These allow you to take the light wherever you need it and there are several attractive varieties on the market. These look great sitting on your patio table, beaming light around your group. Again, choose lamps that are safe to use outdoors.

Finally, choose lighting that is low voltage. These shine better than solar powered lights, without running up your electric bill too much. Also, low voltage lighting will not fade as your party heads into the late hours of the night. Solar powered light will fade.

So turn your outdoor space into a cozy living environment with outdoor lighting. You will enjoy the beauty of a well light patio or porch and be able to entertain until the wee hours of the night!

Michael Russell
Your Independent guide to Lighting
Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Michael_Russell

Replacement Windows Make A Difference
By Gerry Lewis

All the cheap prices are usually for bargain replacement windows that might not be built well or last very long. The kitchen is one room in the house that should be both practical and appealing, and this is because it is a room in which many people not only have to work and cook but also relax and entertain. Having one of these islands installed in your kitchen will really add to the look of the room, giving it a sleek, modern look and adding to the practical features of the room. You will find your island is an invaluable addition to your kitchen, and will make life far easier when working in this room as well as adding to the look of the kitchen.
Enjoy the many benefits of kitchen islands

When you have one of these islands installed you will enjoy a range of benefits. You can get islands that boast extra drawers which means that you will be able to enjoy additional storage space. The extra countertop space will provide you with additional space to work, and can also double up as table top space when you are not working in the kitchen. You can enjoy a great choice of islands, such as butcher block style islands and granite islands – in fact, you will find something to suit practically every kitchen with styles and designs to fit in with your kitchen cabinets, décor, theme, and personal taste. Having a separate place to prepare food away from the sink and other work surfaces can be a real blessing, particularly if you have a lot of food to prepare, so those with big families will really appreciate the extra workspace that these islands provide.

These islands will help you to make the most of your kitchen space
Having a larger kitchen is great, but for most people having a lot of empty space in the middle of the room is simply a waste. More often than not extra workspace and storage is far more beneficial, and by having a stylish and modern island fitted in the kitchen you will be able to enjoy these benefits without compromising on the comfort and great look of your kitchen. You can look into buying some stools that match your island, enabling you to use it as a breakfast bar or table as and when required, and you will find it a pleasure to work in an area where you have the freedom to move around away from the other equipment and appliances in your kitchen. These islands can be very cost effective, and are a great way to enjoy kitchen and home improvements without breaking the bank. And with the excellent choice of islands available you can find something that suits your kitchen, your pocket, and your tastes perfectly.

Jerry Blackburn continually produces news on topics associated with kitchen cabinets and countertop. Concrete driveways are not only built to last long but are appealing to the eye at the same time. Granted, they may take a bit of time to build properly, because none of your efforts will feel wasted once you view your final product.

What Not to Forget When Building a Concrete Driveway
Building Codes in Your Area - It's possible, especially if you're living in the suburbs, or belong to a certain community, that driveway specifications may be subjected to certain community rules. Your village, for instance, may prefer for all houses to have similar looking driveways, regardless of the material used. Or, it's the choice of material that's subjected to certain restrictions. To avoid wasting time and money, do your homework and see if building a concrete driveway will result to any violation.

Put Your Plans in Paper - Before getting your still-unused carpentry and building tools and donning your DIY uniform, it's best to put your plans on paper and try sketching the dimensions of your proposed concrete driveway. Make sure that you scale your drawing properly to gain accurate results, and most especially if you've decided not to hire an expert to help you out.

If you don't know how to draw, please please please ask someone to do it for you. Don't be stubborn like other homeowners who insist on doing everything themselves, never mind the consequences.

Submit the Necessary Requirements - Once you've become satisfied with the projected appearance of your concrete driveway, make time to submit the necessary requirements in order for the housing committee in your area to grant approval for your concrete driveway plans. It's possible that they'll be concerned with how your neighbors would feel once the noise of construction reaches their ears; to avoid any future altercations with your neighbors, make sure that you politely and nicely inform them of your plans. Gaining written permission from them won't hurt either!

Going Shopping - With the legal stuff done, the next thing to do is what women love to do best: going shopping! If any woman in your household is a genuine shopaholic, she wouldn't mind accompanying you in your buying quest, even if it's just a trip to the local hardware store.

To save on time and money, make a list of the things you have to buy, compare product reviews, and see what brands are of superior quality but affordable at the same time. As for tools and other equipment, consider either buying them second hand, renting, or borrowing from your neighbors or friends.

Excavation and Base Preparation - The pre-construction stage is over, and it's now time to do backbreaking stuff. First in the list is excavation and base preparation. Like most structures, excavating and preparing a base is required to give your concrete driveway a solid foundation. It's best to take your time when doing this because one little mistake related to the foundation can cause the whole thing to collapse.

Building the Driveway - Once you've finished with the foundation, it's now time to build the skeletal part of the driveway itself. Always consult your handmade blueprint while building the driveway to ensure that you've done everything correctly and according to the measurements you've specified.

Sealing it with a Concrete Kiss - Once you're done with the frame, it's now time to apply the concrete and wait for it to harden.

Finishing Touches - Backfill and provide enhancements for the landscape.

Pros and Cons of Using a Concrete DrivewayBenefits - Concrete driveways can be decorated in various ways, making it more easy to use as a complement to the house itself. It is also easier to clean during winter. Concrete driveways can also be sealed right after installation.Cons - Concrete driveways, however, are more expensive than asphalt driveways and require a higher degree of care and maintenance. Lastly, concrete driveways cannot be relayered.

Choosing to build a concrete driveway is a good decision to make in most cases, but of course, it's what the homeowner feels that counts the most. Just remember that when making a driveway, always choose a material that won't crack under the weight of a ten-wheeler truck but enhance the appearance of your house as well!

Lee Dobbins writes for http://concrete.subjectmonster.com where you can learn more about the wonders of concrete.
Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Lee_Dobbins

The Biggest Mistake American Homeowners Make
By Dale Adams

The biggest mistake that 90% of American homeowners make is putting a dark colored shingle on their roof. Scientific studies reveal that different color shingles absorb and reflect different amounts of heat. White shingles will conduct less and reflect more heat, whereas black shingles will contain and absorb the most heat.

Almost every consumer knows that black socks or dark shirts will absorb more heat versus lighter colors. Since most people realize this basic concept I have trouble comprehending why 90% of the buildings in our nation have dark colored roofs. Putting a black roof on your home or building is not the smartest thing you could do.

It is common knowledge that colors affect us differently. White colors elevate us while dark colors depress us. Every morning when I get up I pull the curtains and let the light shine in. I want to be happy and feel good. When I poke my head outside to see what’s going on in the world I like to see white color roofs versus their depressing counterparts. Are these dark colored roofs contributing to the epidemic of depression in our nation?

Roof heat transfer is the process of transferring the almost 200-degree roof temperatures into your attic. Attics can reach temperatures over 140 degrees. This heat creates moisture that falls to your attic floor on your insulation. This moisture causes your insulation to become less effective and this heat then sinks into your home. Insulation slows and prevents some of the heat transfer into your home but I can assure you it never stops this heat transfer. This heat then causes you’re A/C unit to work. The hotter your roof gets, the harder and longer your air conditioning unit needs to run. The more your air-conditioning unit runs, the shorter it’s lifespan becomes. Roof heat transfer is a term every American should become aware of.

A white roof will reflect 30% of solar heat gain versus a black roof. Some people claim that a dark roof is better in colder climates. Although I am still doing research in this area, I believe they could be wrong. I haven’t found any studies yet that prove this theory.

Something every American should realize is that yes we have a shortage of oil, but we have even less natural gas. Years ago when oil wells were drilled it was common for oil producers to find gushers. Gushers were caused by the pressure from natural gas that pushed the oil to the surface. There is normally more oil than natural gas in every case. If no natural gas exists, oil producers have to install pumps to suck the oil out. You rarely hear of any large deposits of oil and almost never hear about gushers. When you hear about the shortage of oil, this should alarm you when you consider natural gas and your electric bill.

Most of our electric plants run on natural gas. It will take decades to build alternative power plants. Environmentalist don’t want pollution causing coal plants built and most Americans are resistant to having a Chernobyl nuclear plant in their back yard. Since no other solutions are rapidly approaching, conservation is a necessity. We need to do everything we can to lower our consumption of electric power and natural gas.

Many people get very upset when the price of gasoline rises. Buildings use far more natural resources than our automobiles. If you conserve energy in your home it will have a direct effect on demand and prices for other petroleum products.

If you are the manager of a business that has buildings you are doing a great disservice to our nation and your company by installing a dark colored roof. Your job is to save your business money. The more money you make for your business, the more money you will make. Dark colored tar roofs are petroleum- based so you are contributing to our demand for foreign oil. It is not only unwise it is un-American.

If you are the Grand Pu Ba of a homeowner association that insists every home in the neighborhood has a dark colored roof to match, you need to alter your antiquated by-laws.

I like to think that environmentalist are leading the nation by example and informing others as well as themselves how to conserve our natural resources. They would gain a lot more credibility by doing so.

Anti-war protestors should realize the war revolves around oil. If you sincerely want this war to subside you should do your part to prevent our dependence on other nations. Chances are very high that WW III will arise over natural resources and the need of.

The lower gasoline prices are just temporary and will surely rise after the elections. People who believe they can complain and the government will permanently force oil companies to lower prices are deluding themselves. The only way that could happen is if we threw out our present form of government and converted to a socialist country. We live in a capitalist society and supply and demand will dictate prices. Since there is an ever-increasing shortage of natural resources, prices will continue to reach higher. Our only choice is to consume less and constantly search for alternative energy.

Conserving our natural resources is truly a matter of national security.

Dale Adams of Majestic Publishers is the author and self publisher of the new book, “Care Giving Made Easy – How to be an Awesome Caregiver” and the soon to be released, “How to Make Your Home Sell - Even In A Slow Market” His many experiences include being a Security Consultant, General Contractor and Energy Conservation Specialist. It comes in a wide variety of materials, styles and colors and can dramatically increase the value and appearance of your home for years to come.

Vinyl Siding
For ease of maintenance and unparalleled performance, vinyl siding is the most popular choice on the market today. Unlike wood and metal siding, vinyl can easily withstand the changing seasons as well as the normal wear and tear that comes with age; and still look newly installed.

Vinyl siding offers many choices when it comes to color and style. Styles include board n' batten (barn), wood grain and matte finishes. Because the color in vinyl siding is permanent and perforates through the entire panel, you will never need to paint your home again. Your new siding will easily resist fading and scratches for a number of years and will never peel.
Made from polyvinyl chloride, or "PVC" as it is more commonly known, vinyl siding is impact resistant and will not succumb to termites, moisture or rot. However, vinyl siding can burn or warp if exposed to a high temperature such as an open flame or a BBQ.

Maintenance with vinyl siding is virtually non-existent. You can easily wash off dust, soil and cob webs with a garden hose once a year and remove most stains with standard household cleaners and a wash rag.
Vinyl Siding is manufactured by companies such as Certainteed Corporation, Heartland Building Products, Alcoa and Owens Corning. You can complete your new vinyl siding project with coordinating accessories, custom windows and door casings.

Fiber Cement Siding
The second most popular choice on the market today, fiber cement siding is a composite material made of silica, water and other ingredients.
Available in a variety of styles including wood grain and stucco patterns, fiber cement siding can be painted in any color of your choice. It is an economical alternative to old wood siding and is resistant to fire, weather, cracking and rotting.

Fiber cement is manufactured under the Weatherboards brand by Certainteed Corporation and as HardiPlank by James Hardie Building Products.

Metal Siding
Aluminum and steel siding are the most common metal siding materials used. Metal siding is not as widely used or manufactured as vinyl or fiber cement and requires more maintenance, including painting. Consequently, metal siding is prone to denting and peeling.

Like other siding materials, metal siding is available in a variety of colors and styles including the popular "log cabin" siding.
About the Author

James Skinner is co-founder and chief operating officer of OnlineSiding.com, a website dedicated to providing home owners with free access to siding, window and financing information as well as local, qualified contractors. Once informed of the higher resale value that homes with solar systems can have, 2/3 of those surveyed said they’d expect to pay more money for such a home, a would do so willingly; what’s more, 1/2 of those surveyed said they’d even be willing to pay a 10% premium on for homes with solar energy systems built-in.

Solar Water Heaters: People living in warm climates and freezing climates alike can now enjoy the benefits of solar water heating. Though the technologies are slightly different depending on whether there’s ever a freeze lasting longer than a night or two, solar hot water is a viable option wherever a person may reside.

Solar Shingles: By all appearances, these look like ordinary shingles, but look closer and you’ll see that they’re actually thin-film solar cells. The amorphous silicon material used in these shingles is reported to be even more effective at collecting sunlight than regular solar panels while still being strong enough to be used as a roofing material. They’re installed in an overlapping pattern, just like regular shingles, thus providing the same level of weather protection. The wires run underneath a plywood roof deck that protects the house from the intense heat these solar shingles absorb, and the shingles are held in place by a glue-like EVA compound that is activated by heat.

Recreational Solar Kits: The average Joe and Jane consumer can purchase complete solar kits that come with everything one needs to get solar power up and running in their RV’s, weekend/seasonal cabins, and boats. Your typical solar kit will include:
• 1 or more photovoltaic modules (solar panels)
• Mount (such as a flush mount rack or a pole top fix rack)
• Charge controller
• Safety disonnect
• Fuses
• Fuse box and/or circuit breaker
• and in some cases, a storage battery

Solar/Stellar Battery: Russian scientists have developed a battery that captures solar energy itself without the need for an external panel or collector. A true 21st century innovation, it also collects energy from stars, regardless of meteorological conditions.

New Materials: We touched on it in the above section on solar shingles, but thin-film solar cells deserve a repeat mention in any article on current trends in solar polar. This new, silicon-based thin-film technology adheres heat pumps and solar cells onto other surfaces, whether wood, drywall, glass windows, plastic – imagine the possible applications! This technology will vastly increase solar energy’s versatility and range of practical applications while vastly decreasing the associated costs. Other promising R&D efforts into newer and better materials for solar energy equipment includes solar cells made from titania nanotubes, natural dyes, lead and cadmium selenide nanocrysals, and everyday plastic.
21% of Venture Capital firms surveyed spent a combined total of $500 million on renewable energy start-ups, including many solar power companies. Nanosolar is a start-up company that uses materials based on nanotechnology to make solar systems more efficient. Energy Innovations is a company that uses mirrors that follow the sun installed on panels to collect solar power.

According to Clean Edge, a company that conducts independent research on clean technologies, reports that the market for solar energy has increased 55% from 2004 to 2005, and will further increase from an $11.2 billion industry to a $51.1 billion one come 2015. By 2015, the costs for grid electric power and solar power should be neck and neck.

Solar power can save you a lot of bucks and it really looks cool! The products that you are going to use in the installation of your room need to be listed and the basic price for the products in board feet or unit prices need to be included. The walls and roof of the room need much consideration and review.

Permits are usually required by localities and heavy fines can result in the failure to obtain these permits. Municipalities have the authority to tear down any structure that they consider to be unsafe or not built according to the codes. Structural stability might be called into question if not done by Knowledgeable builders. Electrical components need to be installed by an accomplished electrician. The alternative is to have a room that is unsafe and unusable. Permits are required in order to insure the home owners safety and the safety of the community. Air conditioning and heating units that have been installed incorrectly are a waste of time and money.

The walls of the room should be installed with straight sections that are built on correct centers. Correct centers will insure that the insulation and wall covering that you select will fit properly. Care should be taken on existing foundations and the correct methods should be used to correlate with those foundations. A slab or an extension of the foundation must be built to coincide with the size and weight of the room. Correct roofing materials should be purchased to coincide with the rest of the house. Knowledgeable workers must install the roofing material to protect the room from water damage.

It is a good idea to weather proof the room as soon as possible. That entails putting on a roof and installing the walls onto the foundation. Doors, windows and ceiling panels can now be added. Once this is accomplished you can begin electrical work. Installing air conditioning systems can be next in accompaniment with the installation of the ceiling. Different materials are offered to the consumer for this purpose. After the electrical wiring has been installed in the walls and ceiling insulation can be added to the room. The location of electrical outlets, ceiling fans and lights have to be planned in advance. It is best to do this work while the walls are bare. Wall coverings can now be installed. Sheet rock, wood paneling and other decorative materials are offered for your convenience. Edging and molding can now be added along with the finished electrical parts. The flooring can be next. Carpet, tile, wood flooring and other products are offered to the consumer. If carpet is desired for the flooring a carpet pad should accompany this installation.

The exterior of the room should be treated with paint or siding to insure it's weather protection. All parts and components to the room should meet strict coding requirements. The right gage of electrical wiring should be used along with the strict enforcement of building codes. According to your specific regional climate situations your addition can be Taylor made to meet the requirements of your area. Weather proofing the room along with the need for structural integrity head the list of priorities. An architect or a reputable home builder may insure that the building process ends on a safe and well constructed note.

Stephen Graham: Writes articles from his own life experiences.

http://goodstuffintexas.blogspot.com
http://buckskinnews.blogspot.com
http://huntn-n-fishn.blogspot.com

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Stephen_Graham

Kitchen Remodeling
By Richard Romando

Are you tired of the old look of your kitchen? Are you considering to give it a whole new look? If you are, then what you need is kitchen remodeling. Kitchen remodeling is one of the most expensive home improvement projects that you can do. However, it can also be possible to do some minor and major retouches to your kitchen without ripping of your budget.
Installing a kitchen island is very popular these days so you can include this on the top of your list. A kitchen island is a centrally located countertop on which you can now have enough room to dice, slice, cook, and wash utensils at the same area. With this custom island kitchen, you save time and energy from going back and forth the kitchen area to do several kitchen duties.

If you still have enough space in your kitchen area, it will also be nice to add a breakfast nook. Here, after preparing your food, you can sit quietly and eat without having to go to the dining room. Some homes have this especially those who are singles who do not need a wider space yet for a dining room.

And lastly, you can resurface your kitchen cabinets instead of replacing them if you really want to save a great deal. Kitchen cabinets are one of the few things that are usually seen inside the kitchen so it’s a good idea to resurface them for a more enhanced look. You can hire a professional to do this for you or if you know a little on this, it would be better to do it yourself in order to save more.

These are some of the kitchen remodeling ideas that you can do to your kitchen area. Remodeling your kitchen need not to come in expensive packages. All you need is a little effort and research for affordable means of creating a more attractive look for your kitchen.

Kitchens provides detailed information on Kitchens, Kitchen Cabinets, Kitchen Remodeling, Kitchen Designs and more. For starters, finding where the roof is leaking is not always easy, and even after the leak is found it is sometimes difficult to know how to proceed.

The first thing homeowners should know is that leaks in roofs are often difficult to find since they often originate at a different area from where they show up inside the home. In order to find the true source of the leak it is important to consider how water flows. Water will typically come in through worn out or missing shingles, in places where nails have worked their way loose or through poorly sealed vents, skylights and chimneys. After the water has passed through the roofing, it will flow along the roof rafters or the top of the ceiling until it finds a spot to drip into the home.
It is important to look for the roof leak during the day, when the light is good. A good way to start is by going into the attic with a bright light. The best strategy is to start where the leak made itself evident and work backwards to the roof. Be sure to look for signs of moisture along the framing. Be sure to also look for water stains or discolorations that could have been made by water.

After you have examined the area for wetness, turn on the light and look for a hole where you see daylight through the roof. This process may be difficult on a wood shingled roof, since such a roof will have many places where the shingles overlap and let in light.

If the problem turns out to be missing or damaged shingles, the process of repairing the leaking roof is fairly simple. Replacing the worn out or damaged shingles should be enough to patch the leak and prevent it from coming back. While you are up on the roof replacing shingles, though, be sure to examine the entire roof for problems. It is best to replace the shingles as you find them damaged, rather than to wait for the leak to reoccur before taking the necessary action.

Finding and repairing a leaking roof is not always easy, but it is important to chase down any leaks quickly. An undetected and unrepaired leak can quickly spread, creating not just water damage inside the home but serious damage to the roof and the structure of the home as well.

Brooke Sikula is a freelance writer based in Ventura, CA and writes on a wide range of topics from home improvement to credit repair and everything in between. A good contractor can get the job done as inexpensively as possible and at the same time can provide you with quality service. In fact, finding a good contractor is a crucial move and if you fail to find one you may find that you will pay heavily for the mistake in the future. Let's take a look at what one should do when looking for a professional contractor for home repairs.

First, when you are looking for a professional repair person, don't just hire the first person you find in the phone book that has come to your home to give you an estimate. This is a common mistake that many consumers make. Just because the professional repair person that visits your home seems like a nice guy or gal doesn't mean they are. Remember, finding someone to make repairs in your home is not a personality contest; it's a quality contest, a contest that you are the judge of. Ultimately, your payment is the prize money and you don't want to give the prize money to a repair person that is really undeserving of it! What you must do then, is have several professionals visit your home and provide you with estimates. Review the estimates and use them to make your decision.

When the professional in question is visiting your home, ask them if they are properly insured and what that insurance covers. Find out what their established rules are and ask them for a copy of their contract so that you can review it if you so choose. Also find out about their experience: what kinds of jobs have they successfully completed in the past? What are their recommendations in terms of the work you need done? Ask them for recommendations if they have them and see if they possess and photographs of previous work they have done. Finally, don't be afraid to ask if you can call one of their previous clients for a recommendation.
Next, contact the Better Business Bureau or visit the Better Business Bureau on the web. See if any complaints have been lodged against the professionals you plan to hire. See if you can find out anything about their credentials and don't be afraid to ask questions when you are hiring a professional. If they have nothing to hide, they won't be uncomfortable answering your questions for you. Remember it is your hard earned money and your home that will be affected should the professional not be a true professional!

When you are hiring a contractor, remember that in essence, you are the employer. Just like any other job you will need to be thorough and interview the people you plan to hire. Ultimately, you are in charge of your money and your home and any professional will be completely aware of that fact and not be affronted by your investigative strategies.

-------------------------------------------------------
Michael Russell
Your Independent guide to Contractors
-------------------------------------------------------
Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Michael_Russell

How To Do Home Repairs Yourself And Save Time And Money
By Roger King

Could you imagine how much time and money you can save if you could do your own home repairs yourself. Well you can, if you have the right tools and some time on your hand.

But most people are too busy or have no idea on how to fix simple things around the house. If you have a house, things will brake over time, which is only natural wear and tear. Your home will need regular maintaining to upkeep the value.

When you first buy a house, it will need minor repairs, that you can do yourself. Some of the repairs may be; changing window blinds, doors locks, and painting. In most cases when you move into your new home, it might need a fresh coat of paint on the walls to make you feel at home.
If that’s the case, you should paint the house before you move-in any furniture’s. Before you start to paint, cover the floors with drop cloth, to prep the house for paint. Fill any dents and holes in the wall with sparkle, allow it to dry, then sand and prime the spots.

If you are painting the entire house! Paint the ceilings first, and the walls second. Cut-in the corners with a brush and paint the large areas with a roller. After the house is painted, it’s time to move-in to your freshly painted home.

Do not neglect the outside of the house, because if the outside is poorly maintained, it could bring down the value of the property. When something breaks and needs fixing, attend to it (ASAP) as soon as possible or it can get out of control.

If you cannot do the repairs, call someone that can. My old cabin was comfortable but was not what my wife had envisioned as her dream house in the woods.
Retirement was still several years away and spending a lot of money on housing that would be vacant 95% of the time was not what I had envisioned. A trip to Shreveport in search of housing brought forth good results. We found a 14 x 28 foot metal building that had nothing but bare walls. The building had one large door in the front plus two front windows. There was a large garage door at one end. Obviously this building was meant to be used for a vehicle storage unit.

We made calls to the builder and asked for changes to be made to the building that wasbeing built for us. An exact duplicate of the one we had seen on the lot but with our changes implemented was ordered. We called for the elimination of the garage door and an added window space for an air conditioner. We asked the builder to install five electrical outlets with light switches for a ceiling light.

Our wait of two months ended on the day that the builder said that the movers were ready to bring the building out to our acreage. The bull dozier and operator that I had hired to clear the trees for the installation did an inadequate job. On the third trip to our acreage the movers were finally able to gain access to the installation area.

I installed fiber glass insulation in the walls and in the ceiling area. The ceiling was very talland required huge amounts of insulation which I installed with a staple gun. I used chicken wire to hold the insulation up in the ceiling. I added canvas cloth over the wire instead of another type of ceiling covering. I installed wood paneling in the walls. The floor was coveredwith padding and carpet, A partition was selected to wall off a bathroom area. A showerenclosure was installed along with the proper plumbing. A toilet was added next to thissmall area. The light fixture in the ceiling was exchanged for a ceiling fan with attached lighting. We installed a loft at one end of the building that could be used for storage oras extra sleeping quarters.

A weighty concrete step was added for stability at the entrance. An air conditioner was installed into the extra opening in the wall that was cut by the builder. Under the loft we haveadded a refrigerator and freezer. Cabinetry has been cut to accommodate the spacing available in the building. Bedding is located at one end which is surrounded by a couch witha suitable structure built for the television. The dining area is set off to one side. It includesa table with matching chairs. The walls have been decorated to suit the tastes of my wife.

Exiting the building we encounter an electrical pole with external outlets located on it.Wiring from an electrical device built to control bug populations is plugged directly into oneof the outlets.

The remodeled building is located hundreds of yards away from any habitation. It is situatedabout fifty yards back off of the main road. This seems to be a perfect solution for a desire and dream to have a cabin located in an area of total privacy. The plans are now in the worksto add a deck in front with space for a hot tub. My wife has picked a spot for our new stocktank. A pier will have to be built to accommodate the fishermen that will use it.

Our ideas are endless.

Stephen Graham-Writes articles from his own life experiences.

http://buckskinnews.blogspot.com
http://goodstuffintexas.blogspot.com

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Stephen_Graham
